Thyroid Awareness Month
Living with Hashimoto’s & Hypothyroidism and Finding Support Along The Way
As we come towards the end of January, I just wanted to show recognition for Thyroid Awareness Month, and for me, it’s personal.
I live with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly targets the thyroid, and the resulting hypothyroidism that follows. It’s a condition that affects far more than energy levels. When the thyroid slows down, it can influence mood, cognition, sleep, digestion, temperature regulation, and the overall sense of “being yourself.” And because Hashimoto’s is autoimmune in nature, the immune system is constantly involved, often creating waves of inflammation and fatigue that can feel unpredictable.
For many of us, the hardest part isn’t just the physical symptoms.
It’s the mental load:
- The brain fog
- The emotional dips
- The frustration of feeling like your body is working against you
- The exhaustion that rest doesn’t always fix
Over the years, I’ve learned that while medical care is essential, emotional and neurological support can make a meaningful difference too.
This is where Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has been a lifeline for me, both personally and professionally.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy doesn’t claim to treat thyroid conditions, but it can help ease some of the secondary symptoms that come with them, such as:
- Reducing stress, which is closely linked with autoimmune flare‑ups
- Supporting better sleep and restorative rest
- Calming the nervous system to reduce overwhelm
- Improving focus and mental clarity
- Helping you reconnect with a sense of control and possibility
By shifting the brain out of threat mode and into a calmer, more regulated state, the body often follows with improved resilience and steadier emotional balance. For many people with chronic conditions, that shift alone can be transformative.
If you’re navigating Hashimoto’s, hypothyroidism, or any long‑term health challenge, please know you’re not alone. Thyroid Awareness Month is a reminder that our experiences matter, our symptoms are real, and support comes in many forms (medical, emotional, and everything in between).
Be gentle with yourself. Your body is doing its best, and you deserve care that supports your whole self.
